Swiss Better Gold has learned that there was a fatal accident at Minera Sotrami in the evening of March 21st, and two workers have lost their lives. Initial indications suggest that the miners might have been exposed to toxic gases and lost their lives due to inhalation.

We are profoundly saddened and express our deepest condolences and solidarity with the families and communities mourning the tragic loss of miners in Minera Sotrami, Peru. No miner should lose his life while working to sustain their family and contribute to economic development. 

This devastating incident is a stark reminder of the risks that miners in artisanal and small-scale mining (ASM) face daily.  SBG stands with Minera Sotrami during this difficult time.
